In a major development, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials in Srikakulam district successfully apprehended a GST officer, N. Kishore Kumar, while accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh from a trader on 31 December. The incident unfolded when a cashew trader sought input tax assistance from the officer and was allegedly coerced into paying a hefty bribe by the GST officer.

Details of the Bribery Incident

ACB DSP Ramanamurthy disclosed that the cashew trader had approached GST officer N. Kishore Kumar for assistance with input tax. Shockingly, Kumar demanded a bribe amounting to ₹1.5 lakh in exchange for facilitating the process. Faced with this unethical demand, the trader decided to take action against corruption.

Upon learning of the illicit demand, the trader sought guidance from the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Acting on the bureau’s advice, the trader agreed to pay ₹1 lakh as part of a meticulously planned sting operation to catch the corrupt GST officer red-handed.
