In a proactive move, the Investigation Directorate of the Income Tax Department, North East Region, has rolled out stringent measures to monitor the movement of unaccounted cash, aiming to curb its potential impact on the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Assam.
Preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections have prompted the Investigation Directorate to deploy various monitoring teams across Assam. These teams consist of a 24×7 Control Room cum Complaint Monitoring Cell in the state capital, Rapid Action Teams (RAT), District Monitoring Teams in every district, and Air Intelligence Units (AIU) stationed at all state airports. The primary goal is to prevent the utilization of black money in the electoral process.
The designated Monitoring Teams have been assigned the crucial task of ensuring that the elections are conducted in a manner that is free, fair, and transparent. They will be closely monitoring the movement of unaccounted cash, focusing on its potential role in influencing the election process, all in accordance with the guidelines and directives issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
To encourage public participation and cooperation, citizens are urged to report any complaints or information related to cash or other items suspected of being used for voter bribery. Reports can be submitted through the toll-free number 1800 345 3596 or the WhatsApp number 9531460373.
Furthermore, individuals possessing information regarding the storage, possession, or movement of significant amounts of cash or valuables are encouraged to reach out to the Control Room cum Complaint Monitoring Cell dedicated specifically to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Assam.
