In a recent update, GSTN has introduced a new feature on the GST portal to streamline the registration process for buyers of metal scrap. This update, aligned with the new GST provisions for metal scrap transactions, is now available through form GST REG-07, as per Advisory issued on October 13, 2024.
Key Changes for Metal Scrap Buyers:
As per the advisory, buyers of metal scrap are required to follow specific guidelines when completing their GST registration. In Part B of Table 2, under the “Constitution of Business” section, these taxpayers must select the “Others” option. Once this selection is made, a text box will appear, where the taxpayer is required to input “Metal Scrap Dealers.” This entry is mandatory for all metal scrap dealers who choose “Others” in Table 2.
Compliance Steps for Registration:
- Form Selection: Navigate to form GST REG-07 on the GST portal.
- Constitution of Business: In Part B, Table 2, select “Others.”
- Mandatory Entry: Enter “Metal Scrap Dealers” in the newly opened text box.
- Form Submission: Complete the remaining sections of the form and submit it on the portal.
