CBDT Extends ITR and Tax Audit Due Dates for AY 2025-26

New Delhi, October 29, 2025 — In a major relief to taxpayers and professionals, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced an extension of the due dates for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) and Tax Audit Reports for the Assessment Year 2025-26 under the Income-tax Act, 1961.

As per the latest press release issued by the Ministry of Finance, the due dates have been extended as follows:


Revised Due Dates

  • Tax Audit Report (AY 2025-26):
    Extended from 31st October 2025 to 10th November 2025
  • Income Tax Return (AY 2025-26):
    Extended from 31st October 2025 to 10th December 2025

Who Gets the Benefit

The extension applies to assessees covered under clause (a) of Explanation 2 to Section 139(1) — primarily companies, firms, and other entities whose accounts are required to be audited under the Income-tax Act or any other law.


Background

Earlier, the due date for furnishing the Tax Audit Report for FY 2024-25 was extended from 30th September 2025 to 31st October 2025. Now, considering the representations received from various stakeholders, CBDT has provided further relaxation, pushing the audit filing deadline to 10th November 2025 and the ITR filing deadline to 10th December 2025.


What’s Next

formal notification/order to give legal effect to this extension will be issued shortly by the CBDT.
