The All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) has appealed to the finance ministry to postpone the implementation of a 28% GST on online gaming, starting from October 1, 2023.
This comes after the ministry announced the enforcement of amended GST law provisions for taxing e-gaming, casinos, and horse racing, effective from the mentioned date.
In their plea, AIGF urged the revenue secretary to halt the amendment notification until all states align their respective amendments with the Supreme Court of India’s judgment.
As of now, 15 states are yet to make adjustments to their State GST laws, posing potential challenges for online gaming companies based in those regions.
AIGF expressed concerns that the current notification by the Centre may lead to unilateral actions by various states regarding different aspects of GST, potentially causing confusion and operational difficulties for online gaming companies. The lack of uniformity in the statutory framework across states further exacerbates this challenge.
