In a recent development, a vigilance team in Uttar Pradesh made a significant arrest, apprehending a commercial tax deputy commissioner, goods and services tax, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh. The incident took place at Meera Bai Marg in Hazratganj, where the deputy commissioner was caught red-handed by vigilance officials.

The arrested deputy commissioner, identified as Dhanendra Kumar Pandey, was reportedly involved in demanding the bribe from a commercial tax officer. This demand was made in exchange for refunding GST worth ₹20 lakh belonging to the firm “ARDEM Data Services Private Limited.”

Details of the Case:

ARDEM Data Services Private Limited is known for providing essential document scanning and data entry services to various sectors such as bio-medical, financial, insurance, healthcare, and retail businesses across the nation.

Arrest and Legal Action:

Director General (DG) of vigilance, Rajeev Krishna, confirmed the arrest, stating that the vigilance department received intelligence regarding the deputy commissioner’s activities. Subsequently, a trap was set to apprehend Pandey in the act.

Following the arrest, an FIR was lodged under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at the Lucknow sector office of the vigilance department. The accused was presented before the competent court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.

Appeal for Public Cooperation:

SP vigilance (intelligence), Arvind Kumar Chaturvedi, urged the public to come forward and report any instances of government servants soliciting bribes. He emphasized the importance of citizens’ cooperation in maintaining transparency and integrity within government systems.
