In a recent development, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has issued a crucial update on February 28, 2024, regarding a clarification for taxpayers concerning delays in registration despite successful Aadhar authentication as per rule 8 and 9 of CGST rules 2017.

Some taxpayers had reported to GST Network about instances of delay in their GST registration, even though their Aadhar authentication was completed correctly according to prescribed GST rules. In response, the GST Network has provided clarification on the reasons behind such delays in the registration process.

Clarification by GSTN:

“When an individual undergoes Aadhaar authentication as per sub-rule (4A) of rule 8 but is identified under Rule 9(aa) by the common portal for detailed verification based on risk profile, the registration application will be processed within thirty days of submission.

The online tracking module will also be updated to reflect this change in the processing of registration applications.”

This update by the GSTN aims to provide transparency and clarity to taxpayers who have faced delays in their GST registration process despite completing the Aadhar authentication successfully.

For businesses and individuals awaiting their GST registration, this clarification assures that even in cases where additional verification is needed based on risk profiling, the application will be processed within a specified timeframe of thirty days from submission.
