Appointment Process Started for GSTAT: Department of Revenue Invited Applications for Appointment of 96 Judicial & Technicals Members

Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, invites applications for appointment to the posts of the Judicial Members, Technical Members (Centre) and Technical Member (State) in Principal Bench and States Benches of GST Appellate Tribunal

Applications Invited for Appointment of GSTAT Members: The Department of Revenue (DoR), Ministry of Finance, vide its press release dated 15 February 2024, has just announced exciting opportunities for qualified individuals for appointment in the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) as Judicial Members, Technical Members (Centre), and Technical Member (State).

GSTAT, established under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, serves as the second Appellate Authority for hearing appeals under the CGST Act and respective State/UT GST Acts. With a Principal Bench in Delhi and 31 State benches nationwide, GSTAT plays a crucial role in resolving tax disputes.

Eligibility criteria with Number of Vacancies:

1. Judicial Member (63 positions):

(i) High Court Judge, or (ii) Serving or retired District Judge or Additional District Judge with 10 years of experience, or (iii) Lawyers with 10 years of experience, particularly in indirect tax litigation

2. Technical Member (Centre) (32 positions):

Officers with at least 25 years of experience in Group A in (i) the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Tax), or (ii) All India Service, with a minimum of 3 years in indirect taxes or finance and tax in the Central Government.

3. Technical Member (State) (1 position):

Officers with at least 25 years of experience in Group A or equivalent in (i) the State Government, not below the rank of Additional Commissioner of VAT or SGST, or (ii) All India Service,

with a minimum of 3 years in indirect taxes or finance and tax in the State Government.

Age & Other Criteria of Appointment:

Applicants must be at least 50 years old as of the last date of application. The pay for these positions is a competitive ₹2,25,000 per month (fixed), along with standard allowances and terms and conditions applicable to Central Government officers at Pay Level 17.

Candidates interested in the appointment can find detailed eligibility criteria and application procedures on the DoR website. The online application portal will be open from 19.02.2024 until 31.03.2024 at 1700 Hours.

Selection will be based on the recommendations of a Search-Cum-Selection Committee, which will evaluate applications based on qualifications and relevant experience. Shortlisted candidates may be called for personal interaction, and a panel of suitable candidates will be recommended to the Government for appointment.
