Congress Party Received a Fresh Rs 1800 Cr Notice from Income Tax Department

The Congress party has received a ₹ 1,800 crore notice from the Income Tax Department, a day after the Delhi High Court dismissed the party’s petition challenging the tax notices.

The fresh notice on congress party is for assessment years 2017-18 to 2020-21 and includes penalty and interest.

Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticized the BJP following the issuance of a fresh income tax notice to the grand old party. In a recent social media post, Gandhi asserted that when the government changes, action will be taken against those who undermine democracy.

“Such decisive action will be taken that it will serve as a deterrent for anyone attempting similar actions in the future. This is my assurance,” stated Rahul Gandhi in a Hindi post.

Interestingly, this comes amidst the BJP’s ongoing ‘Modi ki guarantee’ campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to fulfilling electoral promises.

The former Congress party president also included a previous video of his in the post, accompanied by the hashtag “#BJPTaxTerrorism.”

On the latest development, the Congress party revealed that it has received a fresh notice from the Income Tax department, demanding a deposit of Rs 1,800 crore due to discrepancies in tax returns from previous years.

Describing the notice as “unjust,” the Congress party accused the BJP of engaging in what they term as “tax terrorism.”

Addressing the media, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh emphasized, “Efforts are being made to financially weaken the Congress, but we will not be intimidated.”

Additionally, the Congress has announced plans for nationwide protests over the weekend in response to the Income Tax order.

Earlier in February, the Congress reported that its bank accounts were frozen over alleged income tax defaults, with a notice to pay Rs 130 crore in overdue taxes. Following the Delhi High Court’s denial of the party’s appeal against the income tax notice, the Income Tax department reportedly recovered Rs 51 crore from the Congress’ bank accounts.

This recent development further intensifies the political discourse, with the Congress alleging targeted actions by the Income Tax department under the BJP-led government.
