MCA Notifies Web-Based Form CSR-1 for CSR Entity Registration: Companies (CSR Policy) Amendment Rules, 2025

In a significant move to enhance compliance efficiency and promote digital governance, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has notified Notification No. G.S.R. 452(E) dated July 9, 2025, introducing key changes to the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Rules, 2014. The amendment will come into force from July 14, 2025.

🔍 Key Highlight: Web-Based Form CSR-1

The amendment primarily substitutes the existing Form CSR-1 with a web-based version. This form is crucial for the registration of entities intending to undertake CSR activities on behalf of companies, as mandated under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013.

📌 Important Aspects of the Amended Rule:

  • Form CSR-1 will now be filed online through a web-based interface available on the MCA21 portal.
  • The content and disclosure requirements of the form remain unchanged, maintaining transparency and entity accountability.
  • Entities registering to carry out CSR activities will still be required to furnish:
    • Entity Type (e.g., Section 8 Company, Registered Trust, or Registered Society)
    • Date of Incorporation
    • Registered Address and Email ID
    • PAN of the Entity
    • Details of Directors/Trustees/Chairman/Secretary
    • Name and contact details of the Authorised Representative

💡 Purpose & Implications:

The web-based version aims to:

  • Streamline the CSR registration process,
  • Ensure real-time validation of PAN and other details,
  • Enable faster processing and issuance of CSR Registration Number,
  • Promote ease of doing responsible business in India.

Entities already registered need not re-register; however, new applicants from July 14, 2025, must use the new online interface.

📜 Compliance Note:

Only entities registered with the Central Government by filing Form CSR-1 are eligible to receive CSR funds from companies. Hence, compliance with this new format is essential for NGOs, trusts, and societies seeking corporate support for CSR projects.
