Three Arrested on Extortion while Posing as GST Officers and Demanding Money from Motorists in Jalpaiguri

In a recent development, three individuals have been apprehended under suspicion of extortion while masquerading as GST officers. Identified as Subhajit Ghosh, Rupesh Tirki, and Partha Ghosh, residents of Bagdogra, these culprits were caught red-handed by law enforcement personnel while intercepting vehicles and unlawfully demanding money.

The New Jalpaiguri Police had received intelligence regarding the nefarious activities of three individuals posing as GST officials, extorting money from unsuspecting motorists. Promptly acting on this information, the police initiated a search operation. On Monday, acting on a fresh tip-off, law enforcement officials raided the Fulbari toll gate area, where they apprehended the trio in the extortion act. Notably, the suspects had arrived at the scene in a white vehicle bearing a board identifying it as belonging to the Bureau of Investigation, North Bengal. The vehicle was promptly seized by the police.

All three accused individuals were promptly presented before the Siliguri Court on Tuesday, where legal proceedings have commenced. In the wake of these arrests, the police have launched a thorough investigation to unravel any potential accomplices and ascertain the full extent of their illicit activities.
