In the Budget 2024-2025 speech, the Hon’ble Finance Minister announced a comprehensive review of the Income-tax Act, 1961. This initiative aims to simplify the Act, making it clearer and more concise, ultimately reducing disputes and litigation while ensuring greater tax certainty for taxpayers.
To lead this review, an internal committee of the Income Tax Department has been established. The committee is inviting public inputs and suggestions across four key areas:
- Simplification of Language
- Litigation Reduction
- Compliance Reduction
- Removal of Redundant/Obsolete Provisions
To make this process accessible, a dedicated webpage has been launched on the Income Tax e-filing portal. Taxpayers and stakeholders can submit their suggestions by visiting the webpage via the following link: https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/ita-comprehensive-review. Accessing the page requires mobile number validation through OTP authentication.
When submitting suggestions, contributors are encouraged to specify the relevant section, sub-section, clause, rule, sub-rule, or form number from the Income-tax Act, 1961 or Income-tax Rules, 1962 that pertains to their recommendation.
This webpage is live and available to the public starting from October 6, 2024 on the e-filing portal.
With the public’s involvement, this review seeks to make the Income Tax Act more user-friendly, helping both taxpayers and tax authorities navigate it more effectively.
